The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory ("The Domes") is the only one of its kind, the world's first conoidal (beehive-shaped) glass domes -- taller than geodesic domes to accommodate taller plants. The three-dome complex is part of the Milwaukee County Parks system and have been an icon of Milwaukee since their completion in 1967.They are consistently ranked as one of the top tourist and architectural sites in Wisconsin and are known around the world.
2016: Included on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.
2017: National Trust for Historic Preservation named The Domes a "national treasure."
In February, 2016 the domes were closed due to structural concerns. Temporary repairs allowed them to reopen in stages but their long term future remains in question, although a major restoration and expansion may be nearing approval. This virtual tour was produced before the closing and installation of wire mesh safety net to protect against falling bits of concrete. View it in full screen and turn up your sound for the best experience.

"Music Under Glass" is one of many programs in the Show Dome providing a welcome mid-week break from the challenges of winter. For the event featured here hundreds of tons of fresh sand were trucked in to create a "beach party" themed environment.
Marty Peck's dramatic "Domes of Light" lighting installation magically enhances the evening environment..
