St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus is a two-story, 80,000-square-foot building in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, opened in 2015 to provide child care and adult day services for the frail elderly, adults with disabilities, and seniors with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. A nonprofit ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis, it was designed to let people of all ages and abilities spend their day together, joyfully, in a beautiful setting with African-inspired décor.
Built on long-vacant land cleared for a 1960s freeway that was never built, the campus was modeled after St. Ann Center’s original South side campus, and likewise provides valuable community-based health and educational services, often at no cost to those most in need. Those services include a small medical clinic; a specialized dental clinic; overnight respite care; hair and nail care; assisted bathing; and a warm-water, wheelchair-accessible pool.
On the first floor, child care classrooms on the west wing and the adult day services on the east are connected by a spacious, sunlit indoor park, where adults and children frequently gather for activities and performances. Also on the first floor are a welcoming lobby and small café; a salon; a modern chapel, the pool, an art room, the salon, a literacy center, a small resale shop and two retail spaces for neighborhood entrepreneurs.
The second floor, accessible via the grand staircase or elevator, features adjoining medical and dental clinics – the dental clinic specifically for adults and children with cognitive and physical disabilities. This floor is also home to an overnight respite care unit and a memory care day unit; respite includes individual bedrooms, a bathing area, a communal living/dining area, and a kitchen. The memory care unit, first of its kind on the north side, includes a pacing track with life skills stations.
Outdoors, lighted walking paths wind past play areas, a tiki hut gazebo and a band shell that hosts music and theater performances.
St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care is regarded as a global pioneer in bringing together generations, for the benefit of all.
